Championing diversity is vital for the success of any business. The film and television industry is no different. Proudly hosted by The New Zealand Film Commission and Women in Film & Television International with support from The Walt Disney Company, the Power of Inclusion Summit will create a much needed dialogue on diversity and inclusion within the industry.
As a member of the Women in Film and Television New Zealand board, I am thrilled that this event is being hosted in New Zealand. We have so much to offer but also a lot to learn. This event represents an opportunity to hear from changemakers and to learn from those who have done it before.
The summit brings together people who will present a myriad of world views, pose questions and suggest solutions for a more inclusive industry and world.
Speakers include New Zealand Prime Minister Rt Hon Jacinda Ardern, writer and director Niki Caro, actors and directors Madeleine Sami, Jackie van Beek, Rachel House and Oscar Kightley, The Black List founder Franklin Leonard, writer and producer Philippa Boyens, breakthrough actor, film and theatre maker Ana Scotney (Ngāti Tāwhaki) and Geena Davis, Academy Award Winner and Founder and Chair of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media.
When: Thursday 3rd October - Friday 4th October
Where: Aotea Centre, Auckland

And so the next time a woman — and especially a woman of color, because she stands to make 52 cents on the dollar compared to her white, male counterpart — tells you what she needs in order to do her job, listen to her. Believe her. Because one day she might stand in front of you and say thank you for allowing her to succeed because of her workplace environment and not in spite of it.
