June was Bowel Cancer Awareness Month. A number of our team have had family or friends affected by bowel cancer, so we are proud to be able to support Bowel Cancer New Zealand by providing pro bono legal support, and winning a chair by New Zealand artist FLOX at the BCNZ's art chair auction.
The Government announced in its May budget that it will be spending $39 million over the next four years to implement a national bowel cancer screening programme. This is fantastic news given that bowel cancer is the second most common cancer for women and men, and 1200 New Zealanders die from the disease each year.
Screening is estimated to save between 16 and 22% of those screened and early detection is the key.
Don't sit on your symptoms.
This coming June, Bowel Cancer New Zealand leads a creative, integrated, national “Bowel Cancer Awareness Month”, campaigning to achieve awareness and understanding of prevention, risks, signs and symptoms of bowel cancer in order that we save lives lost unnecessarily early to a highly treatable and beatable disease.
